Long Time, No Post.....LOL

Here are some pics of our family for May and June 2010. We have been spending alot of time at Topsail Beach thanks to our wonderful friends Missy and Shawn. They have a condo right on the beach and we hang out with them every weekend!!! It's been so fun this summer and it's only just begun. I have lost 45 pounds so far and i hope to keep losing! I feel like a new person! Life is good and God is Great!
On a more somber note, Anthony is deploying in 2 weeks. But we will be keeping busy while he is gone and hopefully time will fly by!

New Year, New Direction~

Good-bye to 2009 and welcome the New Year! Last year definitely had its ups and downs but......WE SURVIVED! I realized that it takes a "special" person to live this military lifestyle and I am very proud of myself for holding my family together and making it through times of being a single parent (while anthony was deployed), being alone alot and so very homesick. But my mom is someone that I can always depend on. She is there for me to "vent" to on my thoughts and feelings. She is always so encouraging and she UNDERSTANDS what myself anthony and the girls are going through. She has come to visit every year and we don't even have to ask her to, she asks us! And that shows me that she is thinking of her precious grandkids and wants to come and spend time with them. Without her, I don't know if I could've made it through this past year. When the time comes for us to move closer to home, I look forward to spending so much time with her! I feel like I owe her the world for all she has done for me and my little family. She was a highlight of MY 2009.
This year, I am not going to sweat the small stuff. But instead, focus on myself and my children and husband with all my energy. In the past, I was too focused on what others thought of me and that will be no more. I am not perfect, but am a good person and I won't allow anyone else to criticize, critique or change me and affect me negatively. I swear to surround myself with positive forces and positive people. It can only enrich my family and myself. I am so proud of my strength that i have found and I only plan on getting stronger.
This year I pray for my little girls to be healthy and happy. I pray for my husband to be safe on his journeys and I pray that I will continue to be that STRONG and OPTIMISTIC woman that my mom has enstilled in me to be. I hope this year is illuminating. Let the sun shine so bright and let us admire the beauty that God has created for us. Happy New Year to everyone!
And remember, "let us not be selfish, let us be selfless".

We have been very busy this month! Lots of Christmas parties and Christmas shopping! The girls and doing just terrific! Anthony is doing wonderful and has 2 more flights until his official title of AIRCRAFT COMMANDER!!!! We are so proud of him!!!! As for me, I am doing really well. I have lost 35 pounds and I owe it all to keeping up with a 2 and 4 year old!! LOL
On a more somber note, we are very dissapointed not to be going home to MS for Christmas break. Anthony is having to leave out for California the first of January and his leave has been cut short. We miss our family so very much and hope that we can have a couple of surprise visits from Ms real soon!!!!
Anyway, I hope this Christmas season is full of hope, happiness, love and good health to everyone we love!!

I can't believe it's time for Halloween already! In keeping with tradition, we took the girls to the Halloween Party at the squadron and enjoyed seeing them have lots of fun! So, the girls and I have just been passing the time with activities and chores, as we anxiously await for August to arrive!! We went to Chucky Cheese over the 4th of July weekend with some great friends of ours, the Schulze Family. We also attended a BBQ with some of the other wives and their kids. It was a great weekend for us b/c it kept us busy busy!
I am continuing to enjoy being a mommy. The girls are so wonderful and sweet and not to mention quite entertaining! They always surprise me with new things they do. They love playing dress-up with one another and it is so funny to see them in action! I have got to get pics of them. They are mine and Anthony's ray of sunshine and the world would be so dark without them. I love them so!
Hope everyone is doing great and enjoying the summer and being with the people that you love and uplift you. Let us not forget the soldiers, who are apart from their families, defending our freedom.

So, I know it has been a while since my last post, but we have been busy! First, we took a trip to MS for my sister's wedding and ended up staying for over a month! We had such a wonderful time!! After we got home, I began my landscaping projects, which are never-ending. I planted a beautiful rosebush and geraniums and a hydrangea and white lillies! Everything is looking great! Then, last but certainly not least, I had granite countertops put in my kitchen and wow did they turn out fabulous!

In MS!

No pics to post yet b/c I left my cable to my camera at home in NC, but will be posting LOTS as soon as we return! We have been here for two weeks now and the girls have been having a blast! They have been to the zoo, hanging out with their cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles etc.! Anthony's dad has a golf cart and they spent more time on that than anything else. I wish we could have one at our house, since we live on the golf course and all, but after looking into it, i have discovered they are quite pricey. So, for now, they can enjoy the rides at their paw-paw's. We will be heading to the beach next weekend for my sister's wedding and I am soo excited! We will be staying at a beautiful 3 story beach house with private access to the beach! The girls are gonna love it! I am very thankful to be able to be down here spending a little of the summer with our family....it helps pass the time while their Dad is gone.
Well, that's about it, just wanted to update you all and to let u know that i'll have pics up as soon as I can. I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather and keeping busy and safe!

Play Time~

We had a wonderful weekend to kick off spring! We had a couple of playdates to attend and on Sunday we hung out around the house playing on the swingset, playing soccer, and looking at all the flowers in bloom! I decided that Athena was WAY TOO YOUNG to play soccer on a team right now, we're talking 3 year olds!!!! So, she practices at home all the time. If she were on a team, i know she'd be the star player cause that girl can play! Her dad and i started teaching her when she was TWO!! Some parents force their kids to do things they don't want to do, I on the other hand, understand that they are children, and am totally against forcing them to do something that their little 3 year old minds aren't ready for! It's pretty much a big cry fest for 3 year old soccer in my opinion.
So, instead of forcing her to do something she doesn't want to, no matter how much it costs(it's just money), i have decided to get her involved in things that she likes which is The arts and crafts projects at Home Depot and hanging out with kids! Not mean kids, who break her toys and push her around, but good, kind kids whose parents have taught them the right way to treat people.

I miss the best Pilot in the world and I LOVE YOU SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH! Have fun in the skies and come home soon!!!!!!!!

April is here!

I am sooooo happy to see that April is here! It's so nice to see all the trees and flowers in bloom and all the wonderful smells, like fresh cut grass and roses! I'm also glad to see April here because that puts us a little closer to daddy's homecoming!! YAY!
I am concerned about a little problem i am having with Eden though. Maybe you could give me some pointers or advice?? She is 18 months old and hardly ever is without her passie and blankie!! The blankie i am not so much worried about......the passie however, is a problem! Is it too early to start taking it away or should i just wait a while??!! I didn't have this problem with Athena, so I am clueless! I am afraid that b/c she never takes her passie out of her mouth, that will delay her speaking. Don't get me wrong, she can say one word phrases like mommy, da -da, puppy, sissy (athena), bo-bo, papaw and nana.....but no two word phrases or anything. Geez, i don't know................
Any suggestions would help!

My Hubby, The Pilot

Where Does the Time Go?

I can't believe that in 6 weeks my little girl will be 4 years old!!?? And that my baby girl is now 18 months old. Where DOES the time go? I mean, one more year and it's time to start Kindergarten! I am not ready for all the change coming our way. I want them to stay babies. I hope I can deal with the fact that our children do grow, but if I just take it one day at a time and enjoy all the special moments, maybe it won't be that bad. Who am I kidding, I'll have a complete breakdown when the time comes to send her off to school and I won't see her for 7 hours out of the day. What is a mommy to do? It's part of life, part of growing and learning, and I know it will be great for her, I just have to prepare myself for things to come. Maybe I can teach her from home? LOL
I hope you all are cherishing every little moment with your little ones as well, b/c as the old saying goes back home, "they'll be grown before you know it."
I hope everyone is doing well. I know alot of us are missing our better-halfs. I pray for them daily and anticipate their homecoming!!!

I Got a New Ride!!

So, I had to give up the Accord for something bigger! I will miss my car, but it was time to go =(
I originally thought about getting a Honda Pilot (b/c I love Honda's so much), but after looking at them, I discovered they have NO trunk/cargo space! So, with the Equinox you get space, built in XM radio, OnStar, and all the cargo room you could dream of and for about $5,000 less than the Pilot!!
I can't wait to travel in it for our summer trip home in a few weeks!! Enjoy the pics!

Good-Bye Louie

Today is a very sad day for me. As you know, we rescued Louie in December and I fell in love instantly. However, I noticed ever since bringing him home that he was nervous around the girls. He did snap at Eden a few times but I just kept hoping it would get better, but it did not. Today he bit athena, breaking the skin, and causing her to get very upset. I rushed to the living room and saw her little hand and got pretty pissed off! I guess i went into mommy mode, wanting to protect my daughter and kill the dog!! I immediately put Louie outside and took a bettter look at athena's hand only to see that he got her good. She is ok now and the swelling has gone down, and Louie is back at the organization that i rescued him from. I have cried half the day b/c i got so attatched to him, but he's just not good with kids. The organization that I adopted him from said he had no issues with children. Well, that turned out to be false and I told them today, when they came to pick him up, that he SHOULD NOT go to another home with small children and they agreed. I'll miss him. But more importantly, my children are safe now.
And I got a double whammy today when i opened my credit card statement. Longstory short, our card number has been stolen and someone or some people have been racking up some charges on it!! Thank God the credit card company picked up on the suspicious charges and had frozen the account without me knowing, but now I have to go through an act of congress to get it straightened out! Oh well, like the old saying goes...."when it rains it POURS!"
I hope ya'lls luck is going better than mine! lol

Not much going on around our neck of the woods, just passing the time and trying to stay busy. I have been trying to improve on my gardening skills and also taking endless pics of the girls to send to anthony. I am very excited to be going home in May for my sister's wedding, which will take place in florida on the beach! Now, i just need to decide what to do with the dogs. I want to take them with us, but it will be too much for me to handle by myself w/ the girls and all. So, I am trying to decide if i should board them? Has anyone had good luck with boarding animals? Is it safe? Please send me your feedback on this as i am anxious b/c i have never left them behind before. Other than that, we are enjoying the warm weather, which according to the forecast isn't gonna last very long, and shopping alot! =) Hey, what else is there to do around here, right?! =) Hope everyone is doing great!

Fun Days With Nana V!

So my mom has been with us for a week now and tomorrow is her last day. I am not looking forward to taking her to the airport. She just radiates goodness and I will miss that so much. The girls are so smitten with her and to have to say good-bye will be tough. But we are cherishing all the wonderful times we've had together this past week. There's no one in this world that can make you feel so safe and secure as a Mother can. I can't wait to see her again in May!!!!! We stayed very busy while she's been here and i have overloaded my camera with pictures of our times! I hope you enjoy them as much I do! =)

So, Athena's first soccer game is this Saturday! She has been doing great in practice and is so eager to learn! I was surprised at how attentive she is to her Coach. Oh, the joys of children, their innocence, their adventures and their happiness! Even though we are so far away from the people we love the most, it so so wonderful to see the kids enjoying their life here! And in 2 weeks Nana will be coming to stay for a while.. YAY!! Athena's Preschool Valentine's Party~

Today Athena's preschool held their annual Valentine's Party and it was a real treat!
The children indulged in heart shaped sandwiches, fruit, veggies and cheese. They also got to decorate their very own cupcake and eat it for dessert! Lastly, they made valentine cards and Athena is sending hers to her Daddy! Each of the classmates traded valentine's as well, so we are stocked up on candy and cards! Eden got a balloon, but sadly let go of it in the parking lot! They don't know it, but they have a really cool valentine surprise from their dad and I!! Can't wait to see their litle faces!

I find it very interesting that my 3 1/2 year old knows most of the song "Realize" by Colbie Callait and "Love Story" by Taylor Swift! She's always beggin me to "play the video of the princess song mom!" (love story) And when I do, she just starts in with the song! It is amazing to me! Speaking quite fluent in Spanish, memorizing her favorite story books, and she can tell ME how to get to Starbucks or anywhere for that matter! She's 3 going on 30! Their little minds are brilliant!

Bringing in the New Year!

December was a fun and exciting time for our family this year! We had family here with us since the 12th of Dec!! I had to undergo a hand operation and am so blessed to have had all the help from friends and family!! We celebrated the New Year by building and assembling the swingset that Santa had gotten for the girls! It was a memorable experience because we all pitched in and put it together..... nannas, pappaws, uncles... the whole bunch from MS!! What fun we had!
I am excited for 2009 and pray for wonderful blessings this year for my family. I hope the same for you and your families too!

So, Athena's preschool had their Christmas Play this week and it was a real treat! All the children showed up in their Sunday Best and sang their little hearts out! What a joy it was to watch them! Also, Nana Rachel is visiting with us and it has been a much welcomed event having her here with us. She will be staying with us for a week to spend time with Anthony as he is getting ready to deploy in January. =(
Next week his Dad and family will be coming to stay for 2 weeks and we are very excited to have everyone here with us!! I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

As Thanksgiving is approaching I have been reflecting on the year and how truly blessed my family and I are. With the world so uncertain, it is so comforting to have such a wonderful family to come home to, who always have encouraging words and gracious spirits! We miss our loved ones back home so very much home but are so blessed that they come visit every 2 to 3 months. When I look at my children, their innocence and beauty make me want to protect them from everything bad in this world and God willing, they will ALWAYS be safe. My husband sacrifices so much to protect and serve his Country. I am so thankful for his big heart, and his braveness. As for myself, well, I am quite proud of the mother and wife that i am, the strong Woman that i have become and for the best friends and family around me that have taught me so much about this crazy life! I pray God will bless my family with health, happiness and safety and I hope to never stray from what God wants me to be.
On this Thanksgiving holiday, I think of our military troops and their families. Godspeed to each and everyone of you! While we enjoy our time off from work and all the goodness of the day, let us not forget the ones who are allowing us to do so.

We've got our travelin' pants on and w're headed South! Anthony, I and the girls are going for a week to see family. I am soooooo excited to get out of this town for a while and be with the people we love the most!! I am soooo excited to meet my little Nephew Caden for the FIRST time! He was born on Sept. 29, 2008 and i have yet to hold him! So, keep us in your thoughts as we travel and i hope everyone enjoys their long weekend.

Trick Or Treat!

The kids had such fun trick-or-treating around our neighborhood! Athena was so cute to watch as she walked up to each door and knocked without any hesitation! We saw some witches and ghosts and goblins and the kids loved it! Then, when we returned home, Athena helped pass out candy to trick-or-treaters at our house. By the end of the night she was pooped!

The squadron had a halloween party last night and the kids had a blast! There were jump-a-trons, trick-or-treat stations, bubble wrap marathons, haunted house, cake walks, and the dunking contest (Sgt. Major, CO and XO got the privilege of being dunked if you could hit the target...). There was food and fun for everyone and I'm glad we went. Here are some pics of the night!

A Gunny hand carved these pumpkins himself! One pumpkin is the CH-53, and the other is the Marine Corp emblem. Amazing and pretty darn cool!

Soooooo, Athena is officially a "Preschooler". Originally I was against the whole preschool idea ,thinking it would just be a daycare of some sort and there would be no benefit to it, except for another "investment" to add to the pile! lol
However, after talking to mom's around New River and out in town, I changed my mind and got Athena enrolled at a Methodist Preschool and it is FANTASTIC!She learns lots of arts and crafts, as well as all the basic pre-grade school studies. And the socialization is such a bonus! She loves going, she is so eager to learn more and more! Her teacher has taught at the school for 15 years and her husband is a former Pilot. I couldn't be more pleased with this experience so far. So for anyone who may be thinking that preschool is a bad idea, I would say for me, it was the best decision ever. =)

The Military Life.......

So my family and I are preparing for daddy's(Anthony's) (a.k.a. "Coach") deployment in January. Anthony was prior enlisted and has been going at this USMC career for 10 years. I have only known it for 5 years. And you would think after all that time that things would get easier........ but they really don't. Especially when there is children involved. The reason why i am venting about this is because the girls and I haven't seen much of daddy lately and Athena's questioning is breaking my heart. I know this is what he signed up for, and the sacrifices he makes for his country is unbelievable. But the girls and I would love to have him around more often. And i know anthony feels the same way. He is an amazing daddy and marine and husband and I hope God is watching over him in all his travels. The military family is one that is strong,enduring,determined,and able to withstand what most couldn't..... That being distance, danger, and uncertainty. But we choose to live with this because we love our freedom and will honor it forever.

Nana Rachel's Visit~

So, we had company for a few days. Nana Rachel came up from MS to visit with the girls and Anthony and myself. We had a fabulous time, except for the fact that I was pretty much bed ridden the whole time. My back "freaked out" again and I could barely even walk. I went to the dr. while nana rachel watched the girls. Thank goodness she was here to help out. Someone from up above was looking out for us, that's for sure. But I am healing day by day and Rachel left this morning. I hate good-byes! Anthony, the girls and I are a little bummeb out by her leaving, but hopefully we'll be able to go home for the holidays. Eden's Birthday!

So, we celebrated our baby Eden turning ONE on saturday! It was bittersweet I must say. Honestly, it makes me want to have more! But, back to the b-day..... we attempted to go see Sesame Street on base, but as usual, due to poor coordination of the event, only a select few got see the show. So much for waiting in line forever!But Eden got lots of presents from our family and she and her sister had a great time testing them all out!

Eden started walking in August and hasn't slowed down since! =) Her and Athena love to play "tag" with one another and it is very entertaining to watch them play together! I certainly have enjoyed having a little one around again and I am seriously wanting another one! Call me crazy, but I love having babies, if only I could get them here some other way than the traditional way! LOL We'll see what the future has in store for the Guthrie Family, but we're content and very much occupied with the 2 little ones we have right now!

Everyday i think of everyone in harm's way for this country. Right or wrong, we all have our opinions, but could you do what they do? Do you stop and think of our men and women who are away from their families, struggling with horrible images, missing first steps, having nightmares.....all for FREEDOM. Do you take for granted all the things you have? The nice home, cars, designer clothes? Is all that what's really important?
I wake up every day and in my heart say 'thank you'. I'm saying it to the ones that are over there in harm's way missing their children, wives and husbands. The ones who are missing tickets to the football games, birthday parties and hugs. They may not can hear me, but I hope they feel the good spirit of people back home who have their backs! I wish the war could end, diplomacy would reign, and world peace would be forever. That, my friends, is what keeps me going. But I will never forget, deny or defame my country and my military. God Bless the USA and all who Love IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"I'm in a hurry to get things done, oh I rush and rush until life's no fun. All I really gotta do is live and die but I'm in a hurry and don't know why............."
Those are the words to a very old country song that I heard as I was channel surfing on the radio the other day. As I listened to the old classic song, the words and the meaning to the song raced over and over in my mind. "This is the way the world is today," I thought. We are all in such a big hurry but for what exactly. I mean, true enough, we all have things to do but is it really that big of a deal? I hate how everything and everyone are so frantic these days. Rushing our lives away, living in choas. When all we have to do is SLOW DOWN and enjoy the simple and sweet things in our lives.

All I want is to stare into my little girls beautiful eyes and to see their pretty smiles, their laughter and all the innocence they radiate. These are the important times, these are the memories that you can never get back. Savor every moment that you can with your children and family. Everything else is second and everything else will still be there waiting for you when you get there. The meetings, the errands, blah blah....... I promise they're not going anywhere. So, why rush your life away? Enjoy the truly important things and everything else will fall into place.

They are really starting to enjoy one another! I love to watch them interact with one another. Sometimes Athena is really interested in her little sister, other times not so much. But I know when little Eden can run after her it will get very exciting! So, yeah, that's about it, just enjoying our girls.

This year's Thanksgiving feast was a hit! I didn't even need the local fire departments number after all!! We had such a good time and enjoyed the break greatly. Anthony's dad and his girlfriend came to celebrate the holiday with us. This Thanksgiving I am thankful for life, love, family, friends and health! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving too. Myrtle Beach Trip~

So, the girls, myself and Anthony traveled down to Myrtle Beach, S.C. this past weekend to celebrate the Marine Corp birthday. Sadly enough, I was unable to attend because of the child care situation. But I am happy to say that the girls and I had a blast in our hotel room! We had an ocean view of the Atlantic and munched on room service! The trip was fun, but i am happy to be back home. I hope you'll enjoy the pics of the weekend there!
